Biography

After an artillery bombardment Hans Brausewetter was badly injured through a hand grenade and died on 29th April 1945 in Berlin.

Tall, blond leading man of 1920's and 30's German films, the son of a doctor. He grew up and was educated at the German school in Madrid, Spain. He returned to Germany in 1914, served on the Western Front in World War I, contracting pneumonia. After being invalided out of service, he studied philosophy and took acting classes in Berlin. He made his stage debut in 1920 and entered films two years later, becoming soon popular with female audiences in romantic films and comedies. His rejection of the Nazis led to him being conscripted into a militia unit and he was eventually killed by a grenade in April 1945.

The Hitler dictatorship didn't suit Brausewetter at all and he made no secret of his disapproval. This led to a short-time transfer into a concentration camp. Because of the intervention of actress Käthe Haack with Dr. Goebbels he got free.

Brother of Renate Brausewetter and uncle of Rudolf Wagner.

Because of his boyish appearance he played most of the time a helpful and likeable youth (charming boy), whom wasn't granted luck in love. With his some chubby face, this image was inherent to him till the end of his career.
