Father of Claude Brasseur.

Distinguished French leading actor, poet and playwright, noted for his wit and poise. The son of actors, he began on stage in 1920, appearing in occasional films by 1925. Brasseur first came to the fore in Marcel Carné's Port of Shadows (1938) and excelled as 19th century actor Frederick Lemaitre in Children of Paradise (1945), also directed by Carné.

His grave is situated in the Père Lachaise cemetery (Paris, France).
