In 2008,Rahul Bose planned on adapting Mohsin Hamid's 2000 novel Moth Smoke into a film. He was to act and direct the film. But the producer's decided to back out. In 2012 Rahul Bose found a new producer with Mahesh Bhupathi and Lara Dutta's Big Daddy Productions, with Anurag Kashyap jumping on board as co-producer. The film was eventually shelved.
