- Jean-Louis Bory was born on June 25, 1919 in Méréville, Essonne, France. He was a writer and actor, known for Mathilde (1967), Trap for the Assassin (1966) and Les amours des années grises (1981). He died on June 11, 1979 in Méréville, Essonne, France.
- Major French film critic who wrote for 'Le Nouvel observateur' and whose interventions at 'Le Masque et la Plume' radio review show were memorable. He was also the youngest winner of the Prix Goncourt at 26 for "Mon village à l'heure allemande" a fictionalization of events during WWII in a village based on Méréville, his birthplace. Professor at Henri IV, an important Paris lycée, he also wrote books on the Romantics and on the Révolution de Juillet.
