- He was nominated for 1997 Joseph Jefferson Award for Director of a Play for "Timon of Athens" at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater in Chicago, Illinois.
- His first Laurence Olivier Award was in 1979 for his legendary Royal Shakespeare Company production of The Taming of the Shrew which starred Jonathan Pryce.
