- In 2014, Kim won the Monte-Carlo Television Festival Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Martin Rohde in The Bridge (2011).

- Kim became famous outside of Denmark in 2012 following the success of the Swedish/Danish crime drama series, The Bridge (2011), in which he played Martin Rohde, the homicide detective from Copenhagen in the first two seasons.
- Has a son, with actress Lotte Andersen, named Louis, born 29th of December 1993.
