- Blair was a student at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles when he was recruited into animation by the Romer Grey Studio (1930-1931). It was an indie startup that completed few cartoons and released none, the artists often went unpaid, and it shut down within a year. But Blair had found his calling.
- Part of the exodus of talent from the Disney studio following the bitter 1941 animators strike. Blair joined the new Tex Avery unit at MGM and worked on its debut cartoon, the Oscar-nominated Blitz Wolf (1942).
- Was an animator for Walter Lantz/Universal (1931), Charles Mintz/Screen Gems (1931-1937), Walt Disney Studios (1937-1941), and MGM (1941-1950). Had his own Connecticut-based studio in the 1950s, making industrial films. In the 1960s and 1970s Blair did freelance work for Hanna-Barbera, on shows such as "The Flintstones" and "Scooby-Doo".
