Biography

Jacque Blackstone

Mini bio

  • Jacques was born in Paris, France, and his family immigrated to Canada when he was 2 months old. From a Jugoslavian heritage, he grew up with his father who designed movie theatres throughout Canada. "I used to take apart the Super 8mm cameras and projectors that my dad had lying around the house when I was 6 years old". He was placed in private lessons at an early age for piano and classical guitar. He attended UNT with a Major in Music Composition and a Minor in Classical Guitar Performance. He moved to Vancouver in 1986 to start work at EXPO86.

At the age of 19, he single-handedly took over 5 theatres at the Canadian Pavillion and was in charge of over $6 million in state of the art technology. This came to him as second nature. He then pursued a career of music and received moderate success, forever yearning for the dream of success in the music industry. At age 25, he started working at Pinewood Sound, training to be a sound engineer. Two years later, he left and started his own studio. Several independent film were posted at his home studio with the most successful being Kissed (1996). For this he received a Genie nomination for his Foley engineering.

Since around 1987, Jacques started doing work on the side with his father's theatre supply company. He would go on location with a 35mm film projector to show the dailies. In 1999, Jacques took over the family business, concentrated on giving the best on-location facilities available, and the business blossomed.

Today, Jacques owns 3 lavish screening trailers and supplies them to the large budget features in western Canada. From dual 35mm high-speed projectors, to magless dailies, to HDTV projection, his company has pleased many Directors, DOP's, focus pullers, and productions with his services and convenience.
