Biography

Edafe was born in Washington D.C., his father is an economist from Nigeria and his mother is a Foundational Black American educator from Mississippi. He grew up in Lagos, Mississippi and Atlanta.. Edafe means wealthy in the Urhobo language.

After attending Morehouse College Edafe boarded a Greyhound bus with three hundred dollars in his pocket and headed to Los Angeles and in two months landed his first role on A Different World after Debbie Allen discovered him in a black history parade. Edafe would go on to star in the classic romantic comedy For Your Love for four seasons.

I think making and experiencing art is inherently spiritual. When you are really in the work there is this sense a creative force is working through you and you are sort of co-creating. I think great art inspires us because it impregnates us with this creative spirit and consciously or not we know we are looking at God.

If you are anti-black you are my natural enemy. Many anti-black people I've met are not white, such is the corrosive nature of white supremacy on the heart, mind and spirit. You've got to look the devil in the eye, call it by its name and not relinquish your humanity or self respect. That is success because the whole point of that evil is to dehumanize you.
