She won a scholarship with the New York City Ballet.

She earned a degree in fine arts in theatre from Stephens College in Missouri.

In 1980, she said she was 27 years old and married to a pre-medical student at California State University, Los Angeles.

She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio.
