    1967 to 1980 employee/head of department at the Central Institute for Youth Research in Leipzig. 1979 Honorary professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin. 1980 to 1986 Academy of Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED. 1986 Full Professor of Film and Television Studies, today's title: Theory of Audio-Visual Media, at the Potsdam-Babelsberg Academy of Film and Television (dormant employment), 1986 to 1990 Rector of the Academy. 1986 to 1990 treasurer of CILECT.

    1991 to 2003 member of the administrative board of Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB).

    Since 1963 member of the SED, 1989 to 1991 of the presidium of the PDS, 1991 to 1993 regional chairman of the PDS Brandenburg, 1993 to 2000 and since June 2003 party chairman. 1990 member of the GDR People's Chamber, 1990 to 2005 member of the Brandenburg state parliament, until 2004 parliamentary group chairman, 2004 to 2005 vice president of the Brandenburg state parliament.
