Biography

Rudolf Biermann was born on April 20, 1958 in Trencín, Czechoslovakia [now Slovakia]. He is a producer and assistant director, known for The Interpreter (2018), A Prominent Patient (2016) and All My Loved Ones (1999).

[on differences between producing a film in Slovakia and the Czech Republic] I consider both, Czech Republic and Slovakia "my territories". About the differences, well, besides the most obvious as traditions, language, market size, there is the variability of styles of the scriptwriters, in their ability to write in genre, to write diverse stories. Slovakia seems to be more stuck in conviction that the auteur cinema deserves some privilege, excluding the idea of a producer being able to come with an original idea, a casting tip, or even being a partner in discussion on the various concepts. I found putting together a filming crew in Slovakia quite tricky, as many of the best Slovak film professionals work in Czech Republic: Martin Strba, Katarína Bieliková, Katarina Hollá, just to name a few.
