He sang under the pseudonym of Frank Montezuma

François Beukelaers had founded a student theater in Ter Kameren. Herman Teirlinck persuaded him to study theater in Antwerp, at the Studio of the National Theater, later called Studio Herman Teirlinck. "From Teirlinck, I learned that something is always twofold, that nothing is simple. And above all, I learned to love theater," Beukelaers said on the radio program "Vriend en Vijand" (Friend and Enemy) on the Flemish radio station Radio 1.

In the theater, Beukelaers has appeared at the Antwerp KNS and Brussels KVS, and in theaters abroad, from Paris and Madrid to New York, Dakar, and Korea. He has appeared in plays by Hugo Claus and Tom Lanoye, in "Le cocu magnifique" or "L'histoire du soldat.".

Beukelaers would later become a teacher at the same Studio Herman Teirlinck (with students including Dirk Roofthooft, Johan Leysen and Gene Bervoets) and he also taught directing at the French-speaking Brussels theatre school INSAS.

After high school, he studied architecture for two years, but he didn't feel at home in that environment. He dropped out and joined the army. There, he joined a theater group and his great love for film and theater developed. After his military service, he took classes at Studio Herman Teirlinck.
