Biography

Ira Berkow was born on January 7, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He is a writer, known for Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story (2010), Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel (1995) and Champions of American Sport (1983). He has been married to Dolores (Dolly) Case since 1978. He was previously married to Nancy Joy Pratt and Wilda Eskew.

Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

Was a sports writer/columnist for The New York Times from 1981 to 2007.

Shared 2001 Pulitzer Prize for national reporting for his article "The Minority Quarterback" in the New York Times series "How Race Is Lived in America."

He was also a Pulitzer finalist in 1988 "For thoughtful commentary on the sports scene.".

Was a Edgar Allan Poe Award nominee in 1988 for his non-fiction book 'The Man Who Robbed The Pierre: The Story of Bobby Comfort and the Biggest Hotel Robbery Ever.'.
