Biography

Richard Berge is an Emmy-winning, Peabody-winning, and Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated producer and director of cinematic, character-driven films that challenge the mind and touch the heart. His films have premiered at festivals around the world, including Telluride, Sundance, Toronto, IDFA, and Cannes. He wrote, produced and directed "The Rape of Europa" (PBS), which was nominated for two Emmys and for Best Documentary Screenplay by the Writers Guild of America. The Producers Guild of America nominated Richard as its Theatrical Documentary Producer of the Year for his work on "The Island President" (ITVS/Samuel Goldwyn Films). With beloved documentary film mogul Diane Weyermann, he produced "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power" (Participant/Paramount), which was the opening night film of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. With director Barry Levinson, he wrote and produced "Yesterday's Tomorrows" (Disney/Showtime). And he worked with director Jon Else on two films about opera, line producing "Sing Faster: The Stagehands' Ring Cycle" (PBS) and executive producing "Land of Gold" (PBS). Richard is best known for his twenty-year collaboration with Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk at Actual Films, where he produced many films, including three for Netflix: "Audrey & Daisy," "Athlete A," and "Lead Me Home." Richard is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Producers Guild of America.
