Directed Katharine Hepburn in two Broadway productions - "As You Like It" and "Coco". The production of "As You Like It" marked the only time that Hepburn starred in a Shakespeare play on Broadway, and "Coco" featured her only appearance in a stage musical.

He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1960 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to the theatre.
