Biography

Tyrone Benskin has been a significant presence in theatre, film, television and music for over 40 years. As part of the Canadian and International cultural landscape Tyrone has amassed an impressive and varied body of work. from no-nonsense cop and devoted father to genius scientist and ancient warrior, showing the darkness and the light of human condition.

With well over 125 film and television credits include starring in NBC's "Debris" and "Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol", The anthology series "Channel Zero", the cult sci-fi drama "Charlie Jade and the comedy series "Pillow Talk". He has also had numerous guest star appearances on hit shows including "The Boys", "Transplant", "Fargo" and "Alert: Missing Persons Unit". TV movies include Christmas classic "The Christmas Choir", "Pieces of a Woman" and Christmas Checklist.

Feature films include the blockbuster hit "300", the Bob Dylan bio-pic "I'm not There", "The Fire Inside" and independent films "Splitsville", "Lunar Sway", "40 Acres", "Les Mechaniques des Frontirieres" "Sapins" (evergreens)" and "Adam's Wall. His numerous theatre credits include appearances on many of the celebrated stages across Canada.

Benskin's voice is recognizable in commercials, animation and video games, voicing such characters as Kobalt in "Flash Gordon" and Rousso in the popular preschool series "Whimzie's House". Benskin voiced the character Itak in the ground-breaking 3D animated Inuit feature film "The Legend of Sarila" (aka Frozen Land). His video game credits include Lucious Galliard in "Splinter Cell: Conviction" and Cornelius Noakes in Outlast Trials. Benskin rounds out his creative career as an accomplished musician, singer and published songwriter / composer. writer and theatre director.

For over 5 years, Tyrone Benskin served as Artistic Director of Black Theatre Workshop, Canada's oldest Black theatre company. He served President of the Board of Creations Etc, a youth arts and outreach organization as well as serving on the board several arts advocacy and community based non-profit organizations. Mr. Benskin was twice elected to the post of National Vice President of ACTRA, Canada's national film and television actors union.

Tyrone Benskin was elected to the 41st Parliament of Canada as the Member of Parliament for the riding representing the Sud-Ouest (South West) of Montreal. During his term he served as Opposition Critic on Canadian Heritage, Deputy Critic on Official Languages and on the Sub-Committee for International Human Rights.

Tyrone continues to follow his commitment to arts advocacy and mentorship along with his ongoing desire to grow as an artist.

Was elected a Member of Parliament with the New Democratic Party in the riding of Jeanne-Le Ber, Que., on May 2, 2011 in Canadian general election. He held the post of Official Opposition Critic for Canadian Heritage, Canada's Cultural Ministry.
