Biography

Heinz Bennent was born on July 18, 1921 in Stolberg, Germany. He was an actor, known for Possession (1981), The Last Metro (1980) and Im Jahr der Schildkröte (1988). He was married to Paulette Renou. He died on October 12, 2011 in Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland.

Served in the Luftwaffe during World War II.

Moved to Switzerland in the 1970s, where he lived until his death at age 90.

Leading German actor, the son of an accountant. Initially wanted to be a hairdresser. Studied acting under Felix Emmel. On stage from 1947. Long residency with the Bavarian State Theatre in Munich. Popular in both German and international film productions. Particularly liked working for Ingmar Bergman. Was at his best playing underdogs, pessimists, hard luck cases, outsiders or persecuted members of minorities.
