Beneckendorff took part in radio play productions and since 1953 has appeared mostly in the field of comical old people or nobles in supporting roles in numerous DEFA films and in productions on GDR television .

During the final phase of the Second World War , he made a long guest appearance in Switzerland. When he returned to Berlin, he went to the Theater am Schiffbauerdamm , where Bertolt Brecht took him on to the Berliner Ensemble .

His appearances in front of the camera increased from the 50s and he impersonated numerous support roles.

The actor Wolf von Benekendorff worked regular at the theater when he appeared in his first movie with the silent film "Liebe im Kuhstall" (1928).

To his last cinematical works belong "Les arrivistes" (1960) and "Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder" (1961) which was released after his death.

The stage actor Beneckendorff also became known to the cinema audience through cinematic productions such as the play Mother Courage and Her Children.

Wolf von Benekendorff remained active as an actor till to his death.

Was the nephew of German general and statesman Paul von Hindenburg (Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg).

As in some films, predestined by origin, upbringing and appearance, he mainly portrayed on stage the type of aristocrat .

He became an actor and made his debut in 1909. As an artist, he renounced the second part of his adoptive name and called himself Wolf von Beneckendorff , sometimes Wolf Beneckendorff .

He perfected himself by studying at the drama school of the German Theater in Berlin and was a well-known performer on Berlin stages in the 1920s , but also played in Hamburg, Cologne, Munich and Düsseldorf.

With the intention of robbing him, four 19- to 22-year-old men beat Wolf von Beneckendorff on January 27, 1960 in his apartment in Berlin-Adlershof. Beneckendorff suffocated on his broken denture. Only the fact that Beneckendorff did not die of the injuries, but rather choked on his battered dentures, saved the four juvenile criminals from conviction for murder.
