Nominated for a Tony Award (in this case for Supporting or Featured Actor in a Musical) for his performance as Joe in the 1994 Broadway revival of "Show Boat". He is the first actor to ever be nominated for his performance in this role (Tony Awards did not exist when 'Jules Bledsoe', Paul Robeson and Kenneth Spencer performed this role in their respective productions in 1927, 1932 and 1946, and nearly all other Broadway revivals of the show have been in repertory houses, such as the City Center or Lincoln Center; these repertory productions are usually not nominated for any awards.).
