  • Darryl M. Bell was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 10, 1963. It wasn't long after graduating from Syracuse University that he was cast as smooth-talking schemer Ron Johnson on A Different World (1987). Bell had a supporting role in Spike Lee's School Daze (1988) alongside Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison. Bell has also appeared in Living Single (1993), Cosby (1996), For Your Love (1998) and co-starred in Homeboys in Outer Space (1996).

  • Darryl M. Bell and Tempestt Bledsoe have been together since 1993 but have never married. They choose not to marry, citing the divorce rate of friends and acquaintances. ("Househusbands of Hollywood", 2009). They are living together.
  • He pledged into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Delta Zeta Chapter) in Spring 1982. He portrayed a fraternity member on both A Different World (1987) (Kappa Lambda Nu) and in School Daze (1988) (Gamma Phi Gamma). Ironically, actual members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., were featured in both productions, but he portrayed a member of a fictional fraternity.
  • Attended and graduated from Syracuse University in 1986. He was awarded the Chancellor's Citation from Syracuse for prominent alumni
  • Friends with Kadeem Hardison.
  • His father, Travers J. Bell Jr., was the founder of the first black firm on the New York Stock Exchange. When Travers Bell passed away in 1988, he left his share of his fortune from his business to his son. However, Darryl basically lost the entire inheritance from his father due to inexperience.
