- Hal Baylor was born on December 10, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas, USA. He was an actor, known for Big Jim McLain (1952), Black Tuesday (1954) and Evel Knievel (1971). He died on January 5, 1998 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
- His great-great grandfather was the original founder of Baylor University.
- His fight with Robert Ryan in The Set-Up (1949) is still considered to be one of the very best ever choreographed boxing scenes in motion picture film history.

In real life Baylor served in the United States Marine Corps and had fought in the battles of Saipan and Tinian in World War II.
