- Remained friends with Redd Foxx up until Foxx's death in 1991. While it was assumed that they were around the same age on Sanford and Son (1972), Bexley was more than 12 years older than Foxx in real life.
- Had a very brief uncredited, appearance as an extra in Dune (1984). He appears in the Padishah Emperor's court as one of the Sardaukar Generals.
- Survived by a daughter.
- Enjoyed playing gin rummy.
