Charles Bates was born on October 22, 1934 in Los Angeles, California, USA. He was an actor, known for Shadow of a Doubt (1943), San Diego I Love You (1944) and Shockproof (1949). He was married to Carol Ann Goodrich. He died on May 1, 2023 in Spokane, Washington, USA.

Appeared in two movies nominated for the Best Picture Oscar: Blossoms in the Dust (1941) and The Song of Bernadette (1943).

Since he appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943), it is worth noting that his name combines the first name and the last name of Hitchcock's two most famous serial killers: Charles Oakley from "Shadow of a Doubt" and Norman Bates from Psycho (1960).

Appeared in four movies with fellow child actor Jackie 'Butch' Jenkins: An American Romance (1944), Little Mister Jim (1946), My Brother Talks to Horses (1947) and Summer Holiday (1948).
