- Valeriy Bassel was not only a Soviet and Ukrainian theater and film actor, but also a theater director.
- Bassel was the Winner of the contests "Your names, Odesa" (2000, 2001), an all-Ukrainian competition of regional TV programs "Ukraine is one".

- He received his acting education at the Novosibirsk Theater School (1960).
- In 1995 he founded and managed the theater "Bustle Fuss" at the Jewish Cultural Center in Odesa, where his directorial talent was clearly manifested.
- Since 2012, Valery Bassel has served in the Odessa Academic Puppet Theater as an assistant artistic director.
- He collaborated with the Arkady Slovesnyk Theater of Poetry and Drama.
- He worked at the Novosibirsk Red Torch Theater (1960-64), and at the State Republican Russian Drama Theater named after M. Yu. Lermontov in Alma-Ata (1964-71).
- Bassel worked also in the Odesa Russian Drama Theater named after A. Ivanova (1972-90).
- Since 1992, he worked as a director in the Odesa TV and radio companies "Channel 7" and "STD".
