Valeriy Bassel was not only a Soviet and Ukrainian theater and film actor, but also a theater director.

Bassel was the Winner of the contests "Your names, Odesa" (2000, 2001), an all-Ukrainian competition of regional TV programs "Ukraine is one".

He began to participate in theater productions during his school years.

He received his acting education at the Novosibirsk Theater School (1960).

In 1995 he founded and managed the theater "Bustle Fuss" at the Jewish Cultural Center in Odesa, where his directorial talent was clearly manifested.

Since 2012, Valery Bassel has served in the Odessa Academic Puppet Theater as an assistant artistic director.

He collaborated with the Arkady Slovesnyk Theater of Poetry and Drama.

He worked at the Novosibirsk Red Torch Theater (1960-64), and at the State Republican Russian Drama Theater named after M. Yu. Lermontov in Alma-Ata (1964-71).

Bassel worked also in the Odesa Russian Drama Theater named after A. Ivanova (1972-90).

Since 1992, he worked as a director in the Odesa TV and radio companies "Channel 7" and "STD".
