Film historian.

Oversees the Film Department at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Former students include directors Michael Bay, Jon Turteltaub and Miguel Arteta, writers Akiva Goldsman, Alfredo Septién and Joss Whedon, editor Phil Faroudja, producers Laurence Mark, Shari Springer Berman and many others.

Has served on the board of the American Film Institute.

Runs Wesleyan Cinema Archive, which houses papers and film-related materials belonging to Clint Eastwood, Ingrid Bergman and Elia Kazan.
