Joan Bartlett was born on October 11, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA. She is known for You Asked for It (1950). She was married to Jeffrey Hunter and James Putman Bartlett. She died on November 28, 2005 in Pacific Palisades, California, USA.

According to William Shatner, he got the role of Captain Kirk for Star Trek because Joan, the wife of Jeffrey Hunter who played the original Commander Pike on the Trek pilot, was sent by her husband to break off his contract for future episodes: Shatner said she drove the studio so crazy (as was intended), they let Hunter go and the rest is history.

Met former husband Jeffrey Hunter while on the set of the film A Kiss Before Dying (1956), wherein she served as a stunt rider for co-star Virginia Leith. The couple divorced after ten years.
