- Began her professional acting career after a successful audition (the last she was intended to undergo, following a year of rejections) for Sydney radio producer Edward Howell in 1937: "OK," he told her, "you can't act for nuts, but you've got a nice voice. I'll take a chance on it.". The play was "Coronets of England" for 2CH.
