Stephen K. Bannon is an American media executive, political strategist, and film producer who spent more than two decades working in the entertainment industry as an investment banker, executive producer, and home video distributor. Long before serving as a high-profile political advisor on the national stage, Bannon built a diverse Hollywood portfolio that spanned from financing major network television syndication to managing large-scale independent home video distribution networks.
Bannon shifted heavily into media corporate governance during the mid-2000s, serving as a primary investor and Vice Chairman of American Vantage Media, which acquired the acclaimed independent film distributor Wellspring Media in 2004. Shortly after, Bannon spearheaded the merger of these assets into Genius Products, where he assumed the role of Chairman of the Board.
