  • Cristóbal Balenciaga was born on January 21, 1895 in Getaria, País Vasco, Spain. He was a costume designer, known for Como dos gotas de agua (1964), Pecado de amor (1961) and Alta costura (1954). He died on March 23, 1972 in Jávea, Alicante, Spain.

Trivia

  • He is considered the greatest fashion designer of the 20th Century.
  • At age 18 he opened his own dress shop in San Sebastian, Spain, and designed couture fashions in Madrid and Barcelona using the name Eisa.
  • Leaving Spain in 1937, he traveled to London, then Paris where he opened his first French salon. He closed the salon and returned to Madrid at the beginning of World War II.
  • He returned to Paris after WWII and reopened his salon, eventually closing in 1968.
