Biography

Born in Sydney, Australia, Tim Baker has lived in Italy, Spain and France. His first novel, the thriller "Fever City", published by Faber & Faber in the UK and Europa Editions in the USA in 2016 was a Finalist for the 2017 Shamus Award and for the CWA's John Creasey New Blood Dagger award. His second novel, the epic crime thriller , "City Without Stars," was published by Faber & Faber in 2018. Tim Baker's first produced feature film screenplay was _Samsara, The (2001)_, a tale of spirituality and sensuality set in the Himalayas. Through his constant travels around the world and in his fiction writing, Tim Baker has always demonstrated a deep affinity and attraction to the interaction of cultures and peoples. This international outlook and openness have enabled him to collaborate with artists from widely divergent backgrounds and cultures, including writers, musicians, film-makers, and actors. He is working on several novels and motion picture co-productions set in Australia, France, Mexico, China, Brazil, Spain, Italy and India.

After publishing several books of non-fiction and working as a writer/director in video and industrials, Tim Baker moved into feature films with his first produced screenplay, the international art house hit, _Samsara, The (2001)_, which successfully wove elements of eroticism, spirituality and philosophy into a compelling drama about a Buddhist monk who leaves his monastery in the Himalayas to live in the outside world. His debut novel, "Fever City", was published by Faber & Faber in the UK and Europa Editions in the USA and received positive reviews in The New York Times Book Review, The Washington Post, the Spectator and other publications, and was a finalist for a 2017 Shamus Award. It was also shortlisted for the Crime Writers Association of Great Britain's John Creasey New Blood Dagger Award and Debut Dagger Award. Faber also just published his epic crime thriller, "City Without Stars", which was selected by the London Telegraph as one of the 15 best novels of 2018, Fiction and non-Fiction.
