Biography

Roy Thomas Baker was born on November 10, 1946 in Hampstead, England, UK. He is known for Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997), The Hidden (1987) and American Anthem (1986). He was married to Tere Livrano. He died on April 12, 2025 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, USA.

He was the original producer for legendary rock band Queen, working on much of their 1970s music.

He produced albums for Queen, The Cars, Journey, T'Pau, Gasolin and The Darkness.

Queen got the idea to call their album "A Night at the Opera" because video players had just come out, and Baker brought over The Marx Brothers film of the same name to watch on the band's video player on their night off.

In 2007 he produced the album "Zeitgeist" by The Smashing Pumpkins, which was that group's first studio album in seven years.

He died in the 50th anniversary year of "Bohemian Rhapsody", the most famous song he produced.
