Biography

Danny Baker was born on June 22, 1957 in Deptford, London, England, UK. He is a writer and actor, known for Wimbledon (2004), Cradle to Grave (2015) and The Football Factory (2004). He has been married to Wendy Baker since August 30, 1988. They have three children.

He became known as a writer for one of the UK's most famous music magazines, New Musical Express, before becoming a broadcaster for both BBC Radio One and BBC Radio Five.

His favorite album is "Countdown to Ecstasy" by Steely Dan.

The first single he bought was "Because" by The Dave Clark Five.

He was in the year above the renowned movie actor Gary Oldman at West Greenwich Secondary Modern School, a state school in Deptford, Lewisham, in south east London.

[on Queen] A dreadful group. They were neither Led Zeppelin nor Bowie (David Bowie) and they played that middle ground in between. Punk rock didn't come around because of prog rock or anything like that, it came around because of Queen. ABBA, Queen and ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) - that was what people were trying to move away from. You can find everything Queen did better elsewhere.

[on Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)] How Queen got a film made about them is still astounding to me. If Bryan Ferry had died would there be a Roxy [Roxy Music] film? If Ian Hunter went would we have a Mott [Mott the Hoople] film? Plant [Robert Plant] with Zeppelin [Led Zeppelin]? All these groups are superior to Queen and yet here we are.

In all David Hepworth books - which are magnificent documents of the rock era - Queen get barely mentioned. This is not a prejudice but simply how it was. They were not a particularly notable or original group. How they have come to be heroic is amazing to we of a certain age.
