Biography

Bruce Baillie was born on September 24, 1931 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, USA. He was a director and cinematographer, known for Mr. Hayashi (1963), Quixote (1965) and Quick Billy (1971). He was married to Lorie Apit. He died on April 10, 2020 in Camano Island, Washington, USA.

Co-founder of the film society collective Canyon Cinema.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War, and attended the University of Minnesota.

I don't think their [his films'] appeal is to any particular class of people. Just people who are open. One has to be empty to see. Most people, though, are deliberately full 24 hours a day, except sometimes in their dreams. These are films for when you want to be quiet a while, and feel pleased with the world.
