Biography

Composer,conductor, bandleader, author and songwriter, educated at Columbia University. He made many records. Leading his own orchestra in the 1940s, he later became the musical director for recordings, most notably for Perry Como. He joined ASCAP in 1955, and his popular-song compositions include "I'm A Slave to You"; "He's a Wolf"; "Scratchin' the Surface"; and "Madeira". He also arranged "Eli, Eli" and "Kol Nidre" for Perry Como.

One week after he was struck down and killed while crossing a Las Vegas street his wife suffered a fatal heart attack. .

At the time of his death he was working as Connie Stevens' music director at the Landmark Hotel in Las Vegas.

After graduating from Columbia University he became a violinist for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Remembered as the leader of the 1940s dance band "Fashions In Music".
