Biography

Michael Axinn

Mini bio

  • Michael Axinn has a background as a specialist in dialogue and ADR voice replacement on over three-dozen feature films, including Star Wars, Moulin Rouge, Titanic and The English Patient, the last two of which won the Academy Award for Best Sound and Best Picture. He was personally nominated for a Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Award for his work on Moulin Rouge. This work - to know and decide exactly what dialogue gets used in a film, its rhythms and inflections - has given him a huge advantage as a screenwriter.

He has been an innovator in film, video, podcasting, and sound design in the corporate sector. In 2021 he moved to Pietrasanta in Northern Italy. He co-produces and edits a podcast called Materially Speaking, where artists tell their stories through the materials they choose. In 2025, he helped create Giro d'Arte, a unique weekend of artist studio visits.

As a writer, he was represented by Kerry Gardner Management and wrote for BBC Radio 4. He was shortlisted for the Verity Bargate Prize and directed and translated a successful Fringe production of Arrabal’s Today’s Young Barbarians. His recent screenplay about the year an English writer and his mistress fled to Italy is currently in development.
