- Donald M. Ashton was born on June 26, 1919 in Edmonton, London, England, UK. He was an art director and production designer, known for Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965), The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) and Oh! What a Lovely War (1969). He died on August 25, 2004 in Somerset, England, UK.
- He left the film industry in the 1970s, at a time of crisis for British films (which is still ongoing fifty years later), but created for himself an extremely lucrative second career as a designer of interiors for luxury hotels all over the world.
