Biography

Luis Arcaraz was born on December 5, 1905 in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico. He was an actor and composer, known for Frida (2002), El valiente vive... hasta que el cobarde quiere (1979) and Nadie muere dos veces (1953). He died on December 15, 1963 in San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

Father of Luis Arcaraz Jr. and María Luisa Arcaraz Genesta.

Grandfather of Dacia Arcaraz, Luis Arcaraz and Luisa María Martínez Arcaraz.

Was an amateur bullfighter.

Studied engineering and music at a school in Spain.

Composer and bandleader. Made his musical debut in Tampico in 1928. Was awarded Mexico's Gold Record Award in 1951 for 'Quinto Patio'. Became a noted composer of film music in his native country. His was considered one of the best Latin dance orchestras of all time, voted fourth in a 1949 poll behind Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Duke Ellington.
