Biography

Jorge António was born on June 8, 1966 in Lisbon, Portugal. He is a producer and director, known for O Funeral (1992), A Ilha dos Cães (2017) and Outras Frases (2003). He has been married to Ana Clara Guerra Marques since 1995. He was previously married to Aline Solange.

He directed his first feature film at age of 24, and was the youngest director in Portugal at that time.

O Miradouro da Lua (1993) was the first co-production between Portugal and Angola, and was made during the Angolan civil war.

At the Luanda International Film Festival 2010, Jorge António refused the award for the best documentary for 'O Lendário Tio Liceu e os Ngola Ritmos'. He offer the prize money to an Angolan welfare children institution.

Since 1995, Jorge is also Executive Producer of the Contemporary Dance Company of Angola. He produced tours and shows in more than 30 cities in 17 countries in America, Asia, Europe and Africa.

His last feature film A Ilha dos Cães, inspired by the work of Angolan writer Henrique Abranches, was forbidden in Angola.
