    May 1, 1944 · Athens, Greece

Mini bio

  • Eleni Anousaki is a Greek actress and former politician who built a long career in cinema, theater, and television, becoming one of the recognizable female presences of Greek film during the 1960s and 1970s. The daughter of actress Malaina Anousaki and tenor and stage performer Vangelis Anousakis, she appeared in films from childhood and made her screen debut as a young girl in I Sinned for My Child (1950). She later entered the Drama School of the National Theatre as an exceptional talent and attracted early attention with her appearance in The Red Lanterns (1963), a participation that temporarily led to her expulsion from the school before the decision was reversed. During the same period she continued her artistic training in Italy after accepting an invitation from FOX to study at Cinecitta, where she came into contact with important international figures including Carol Reed, Rex Harrison, Richard Barthelmess, and Monica Vitti. Although she did not complete her studies there, she appeared in Carol Reed's film The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965). Over the following decades she maintained an active presence in Greek theater, cinema, and television, collaborating on numerous productions and establishing herself as a prominent actress. Alongside her artistic career, she became involved in politics with PASOK, serving as president of the Athens Municipal Council during the mayoralty of Dimitris Beis and later as a member of the Hellenic Parliament for Athens across multiple parliamentary terms between 1989 and 2004.
