- Tony was born in Singapore, to Margaret Grace Arbuthnot (Lysell) and Henry Anholt. His father was a Dutch Jew, with many relatives were killed in the Holocaust. His mother was born in Brastad, Sweden, to a Swedish father and an English mother, who also had partly Irish ancestors. Tony's father was taken prisoner by the Japanese, and died in 1943 while working on the building of the Burma Railway. Tony was raised in Australia, South Africa, and finally the U.K., in Surrey.
