Biography

Nina Andresen-Borud is a Canadian/British/Norwegian character actress born Nina Margrethe Andresen in Calgary, Canada, to parents Kristinn (Sørhus), from Haugesund, Norway and Michael Charles Andresen, from Southampton, England, who immigrated to Calgary in 1968. She is a dual citizen of both Canada and the U.K. and learned to speak Norwegian like a native when her family relocated to Norway in 1986. Andresen-Borud trained as a classical actor in London, England with a diploma in Acting and Musical Theatre from the Hertfordshire Theatre School as well as an Acting Licentiate from LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). Later she received a Pedagogy in Theatre Arts from the Norwegian National Academy of the Arts. Her early career was mainly in off-West End productions and independent films around greater London, UK as well as performing a one woman show "No Legs, No Jokes, No Chance" at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival (1993) before moving permanently to Norway in 1996. Since then she has worked extensively in theaters around Norway, including Teater Ibsen and The National Theatre in Oslo as well as had regular appearances in Norwegian television and film productions, portraying characters in both Norwegian and English, including two roles for art-house film auteur/director, Bent Hamer (Home For Christmas) and (The Middle Man), the latter of which has an expected North American release Jan. 2022.

In her spare time Andresen-Borud is committed to inspiring young people to channel their creativity energy through theatre related activities.

She lives in Sandefjord, Norway with her husband Håkon Borud.

Her first Actor's Equity Union job came from British musical theatre mogul, Bill Kenwright, who invited her to audition for his production of "Dickens: A Christmas Carol" when she was selling ice-cream from a stall in front of The Embankment Theatre in London's West End.

Andresen-Borud's husband has still not forgiven her for not introducing him to "Game of Thrones" star Lena Heady when they were promoting the film "Aberdeen" by director Hans Petter Moland.

When she was just starting out and looking for work, "Harry Potter" star, Alan Rickman gave her the following words of encouragement, "If you are trained in the craft then you are an actor in your bones. Don't forget that, don't lose heart and never let anyone tell you otherwise.".

Andresen-Borud is an ecological hobby gardener who experiments with organic aqua-ponics and soil cultivation for backyard fruit and vegetable production.

Before she started getting work as an actor in Norway, Andresen-Borud worked as a "prompter" for other actors who forgot their lines during performance.
