Made her stage debut at the Thalia Theater in 1951 in 'Ein Monat auf dem Lande'. Lter acted on stages in Berlin, Vienna and Zurich. Her greatest successes were in Colette's 'Gigi' and 'The Rose tattoo' by Tennessee Williams. Acted with the Münchner Kammerspiele from 1967 to 1970 and was an ensemble member of the Thalia Theater in Hamburg from 1971 to 1980.

Her last cinema successes were the humorous crime thriller Peter Voss, the Millionaire Thief in 1958 with O. W. Fischer as Peter Voss and in 1959 the literary adaptation The Rest is Silence, directed by Helmut Käutner, an adaptation of Hamlet set in the post-Second World War era with Hardy Krüger and Peter van Eyck.

Since 1969 she has mainly acted in theatre and has only rarely appeared on television.

From 1971 to 1980, Ingrid Andrée was a member of the ensemble at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg under Boy Gobert. In 1974, she portrayed Queen Elizabeth in Mary Stuart under Gobert's direction.

She completed her acting training at the Hamburg Drama School under Eduard Marks. After graduating, she landed her first role at the Thalia Theater in 1951 in Turgenev's A Month in the Country.
