Biography

Christina Amphlett was born on October 25, 1959 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. She was an actress and composer, known for The Happytime Murders (2018), Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) and Sixteen Candles (1984). She was married to Charlie Drayton. She died on April 21, 2013 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.

Lead singer of Divinyls, 1980-1997 and 2006-2009.

Cousin of singer Patricia Amphlett (Little Pattie).

The band, Divinyls, was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006, and, after a tour in 2007, split up.

Announced in 2007 that she had multiple sclerosis and, after a tour, the Divinyls broke up for what was to be the last time. She informed later, in 2010, that she had developed breast cancer as well, but could not receive normal chemotherapy treatment due to her MS.

Was a student of Lynette Sheldon.

I felt very vulnerable singing, "I'm through hanging around all of the boys in town." It was difficult for me. I couldn't stand there and sing them. I felt I wasn't being interesting. I wanted to also perform and entertain or transport people also. I wanted other levels. So I went out and got a school uniform and probably Vince got suspenders and stockings. That freed me and then everything changed. With watching everybody's reaction, all the men around me and everything, because there were all of these contradictions going on, it just made me angrier. I think I was angry because I didn't want them to think I'm a pushover or I'm submissive because I've got these suspenders on and that I'm a slut, basically.
