Biography

Sergio Amidei was born on October 3, 1904 in Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. He was a writer and producer, known for Rome, Open City (1945), General Della Rovere (1959) and An Average Little Man (1977). He died on April 14, 1981 in Rome, Lazio, Italy.

Member of jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 1979.

Considered to be one of the foremost exponents of Italian post-war neo-realism.

Founded his own production company, Colonna Films, in 1949.

Has been romantically linked to actress Maria Michi in the 40s and to actress Giovanna Ralli in the 50s.
