E. Preston Ames was born on June 15, 1906 in San Mateo, California, USA. He was an art director and production designer, known for An American in Paris (1951), Gigi (1958) and Airport (1970). He died on July 20, 1983 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Spent the bulk of his career at MGM, from 1936 to 1970.

Studied architecture in France.
