Biography

Charles Amberg was born on December 8, 1894 in Bonn, Germany. He was a writer, known for Enemy at the Gates (2001), Versuchen Sie meine Schwester (1931) and Der König lächelt - Paris lacht (1936). He died on August 15, 1946 in Berlin, Germany.

The film song lyricist and screenwriter Charles Amberg became well-known in the 20s as a lyricist for the Haller-Revue in Berlin. There he also wrote numerous lyrics for popular songs, among others also for the Comedian Harmonists.

From 1930 Charles Amberg also worked for the film business and he wrote numerous lyrics for film songs.

Besides his activity as a lyricist Charles Amberg also wrote several screenplays.

Because they assumed that Charles Amberg nee Karl Amberg had a Jewish background he was arrested in the KZ Neuengamme during World War II. He survived the KZ but died only one year later at the age of only 51.
