Found out on the Genealogy show Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr that her paternal grandfather's brother was murdered in Iran and when her grandfather found out about it he went to Teheran to exact "blood money" and when he got to Teheran he was given a title given to clerics in order to appease him.

She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.

Amanpour was permitted to interview the extremist Russian politician, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, for 60 Minutes after he specifically said he would not be interviewed by an American correspondent from the show.

Is the eldest of four sisters.

At 11, she was sent from Iran to a Catholic girl's boarding school in England.

Discovered on Finding Your Roots (2012) that her great-great-great-great-grandfather was Mirza Mohammad Taghi, who was Governor of the Province of Isfahan in the 1840s.

Fluent in Farsi and most of the time speaks Farsi in Iran.
