Biography

Kitty Aldridge was born in 1962 in Bahrain. She is an actress and writer, known for Maurice (1987), A Room with a View (1986) and The Ice House (1997). She has been married to Mark Knopfler since February 14, 1997. They have two children. She was previously married to Neal Sundstrom.

Child: Isabella, 1998, by marriage to Mark Knopfler.

Gave up acting to pursue a writing career. She has had 4 novels and a short story published since 2001.

Second daughter with husband Mark Knopfler was born 25 November 2003 and named Katya Ruby Rose.

[on her acting career] At first it was great but as I got older I began to feel increasingly uncomfortable. Eventually, I couldn't stand the sight of myself. I didn't want to make a spectacle of myself on television any more.

[on A Room with a View (1986)] It was my first professional job and I was terrified. I dug my fingernails into my palms so hard they were marked for weeks. Once I accidentally walked into Maggie Smith's dressing room when we were filming in a vast chateau. When she asked me what I wanted, I almost fainted with terror.
