Chris Albrecht began his career in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian and stage actor before transitioning to the business side of the industry. From 1975 to 1980, he co-owned and operated The Improv comedy clubs in New York and Los Angeles. He later joined International Creative Management (ICM) as a talent agent, where he was instrumental in launching the careers of major stars like Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, and Billy Crystal.
The HBO Era Albrecht joined HBO in 1985 and eventually rose to become Chairman and CEO. During his tenure, he is widely credited with transforming the network from a movie-focused service into a powerhouse of original "prestige" television. Under his leadership, HBO green-lit and produced some of the most critically acclaimed series in television history, including The Sopranos, Sex and the City, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, and Band of Brothers. He also oversaw the development of hit comedies like Everybody Loves Raymond and Martin through HBO Independent Productions.
Starz, Legendary, and Beyond In 2010, Albrecht became President and CEO of Starz, where he significantly grew the network's subscriber base and original programming slate with hits like Outlander, Power, and American Gods. Following his time at Starz, he served as Managing Director of Legendary Television before co-founding Rubicon Global Media in 2023, a venture focused on developing and producing international television content. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with numerous honors, including being named "Showman of the Year" by Variety in 2003.
